Fact finding visits to other EU institutions to increase networking

Dr Dragana Rančić, assistant professor and Dr Ilinka Pećinar, assistant professor (FUNCROPS group) visited Swiss Federal Research Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape WSL in Zurich, Switzerland, from 4th to 7th April 2016. The aim of the visit was to inform researchers from Swiss Federal Research Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape WSL about AREA activities, aiming to increase AREA networking with EU institutions and finding partners for future collaboration. Host of the visit was Dr. Holger Gärtner, Scientific head of the wood anatomy laboratory in WSL's Dendro Department.

The presentation of the AREA project and the Faculty at Agricultural Fair in Thesaloniki, Greece

The AREA project and the Faculty were presented at the 26th edition of AGROTICA 2016  that was held from from January 28 until January 31, 2016 in Thessaloniki, Greece.  AGROTICA regularly keeping its appointment every two years is the largest international meeting of sector professionals presents the latest global agricultural developments.

Workshop in Brussels

Prof. Radmila Stikic and WP5 leader Bogdan Mladenovic participated in Workshop Contribution of "Research Potential" and "Regions of Knowledge" to synergies of EU policies, organised in Brussels 7 December 2015. During the meeting they also had a meeting with AREA legal Officer Annamaria Zonno .

World Café workshop

AREA project organized the Workshop „World Café“ that was held 1 December  2015 in hotel “Tulip Inn Putnik”, Belgrade. The overall objective of the Workshop was to improve communication and to build more effective links with SMEs and the food industry, on the one side, and AREA participants, on the other side. At the beginning of the event, AREA project and its objectives and achievements were presented to the audience as well as upgrading analytical methods and scientific expertise of Faculty of Agriculture that was built during the project.

Research seminar

During the period of November 9-20, "Course in professional speaking skills" was organized at Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade within the AREA project. Course leader and instructor was Fulbright specialist prof. Mark Gleason from Iowa State University. The course was attended by 25 young researchers, mainly PhD and master students, but also research associates, assistant professors, associate and full professors.

Dr Dragana Rančić, Assistant Professor (FUNCROPS group) visited Raman Imaging Group at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, from 13th to 19th October 2015. The aim of the visit was to inform researchers from Jagiellonian University in Krakow about AREA activities, aiming to increase AREA networking with EU institutions and finding partners for future collaboration. Host of the visit was prof. dr Malgorzata Baranska, Faculty of Chemistry - Raman Imaging Group.

Research seminar

Dr. Srđan Aćimović, plant pathologist from ArboJet Inc., 99 Blueberry Hill Rd Woburn, MA 01801, USA gave a seminar entitled: “Control of apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) and fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) using trunk injection of plant protective compounds and the potential for precise protection of apples”. The seminar was held on September 2nd, 2015 in the Amphitheater 11/III at the Faculty of Agriculture with the beginning at 12 h.

Training in DNA-based technologies

PhD student Markola Saulić (WEEDSCI group), has finished training in DNA-based technologies. The training was organized at School of Agriculture, Policy and Development, University of Reading, Reading, UK from 20th April to 27th June 2015, under the supervision of Dr. Paul Hadley, Dr. George Gibbings and Matthew Ordidge . The aim of this training was ability of WEEDSCI young researchers to use and acquire the methodological principles in DNA extraction, application of molecular markers and sequencing, mainly related to assessment of populaton variability weed species.
